Make sense of food delivery
Delivery is convenient when the details line up. Check the restaurant, the total, and the handoff before placing an order through your chosen service.

Check the restaurant and location
Start with the restaurant’s name, street location, current menu, and ordering hours. A familiar name may have several branches with different availability. Make sure the selected location is the one you intend to order from.
If you follow a restaurant’s own ordering link, look at the destination before entering payment details. If you use a delivery app, use its established app or website. Burger Fieldnotes does not operate a checkout or a delivery service.
Compare the final total
The menu subtotal is only one part of the decision. Delivery services may show a delivery fee, a service fee, taxes, and other charges that depend on the order or location. A tip you select also changes what you pay. Item prices and offers may differ from a restaurant’s direct menu.
| Check | What to look for |
|---|---|
| Items and extras | The same portions, substitutions, and add-ons in each basket. |
| Delivery and service charges | Each charge shown at checkout, including any conditions attached. |
| Promotions or memberships | Eligibility, minimum spend, exclusions, and any ongoing subscription cost. |
| Tax and tip | The final amounts before confirming the order. |
Compare equivalent baskets at the same point in checkout. A “free delivery” offer does not necessarily remove every other charge. Read the terms displayed for your own order; this guide does not quote live fees or prices.
Treat arrival times as estimates
Look at the current estimate and your own schedule. Preparation time, courier availability, travel conditions, and access to the building can affect the handoff. An estimate shown before checkout is not a promise from this publication.
Confirm the full address and apartment or suite. Add concise access instructions in the ordering service where supported. Avoid including unnecessary personal information in public reviews or notes. Keep your phone available if the restaurant or courier needs to reach you through the service.
Make a practical travel plan
Choose items that fit how soon you expect to eat. If the restaurant offers the option, request sauces or cold toppings separately. Check whether utensils are included or need to be selected, especially for a group or an office order.
Review customization options before paying. The restaurant may not be able to follow every free-text request, and some apps limit changes after confirmation.
Know where to go if something is wrong
Keep the order confirmation and receipt. If an item is missing, the delivery does not arrive, or the charge looks wrong, open that order in the service you actually used and follow its support process. If you ordered directly, contact the restaurant using its published details.
Be cautious about unexpected calls or messages asking for a password, payment code, or a new payment link. Navigate to the service yourself instead of trusting the contact details in an unsolicited message. Support and refund rules vary; this site cannot change an order or guarantee a refund.
Before you confirm: right restaurant, right address, complete basket, final total, realistic timing. Keep those five checks together.
